Illamasqua Superior Liquid Metal – Review, Photos, Swatches

by Tavia

Hi everyone!

I’ve been postponing this review for a while now but it’s time to get serious about all the makeup reviews that I have to do if I don’t want that 2011 will find me with unfinished reviews.

I’ve got the Superior Liquid Metal together with other products from Illamasqua The Art of Darkness Collection for Fall – Winter 2010 and I’ve already used this shade for my version of Wanton Woman makeup look.

Prepare to dazzle with this gloriously rich and highly pigmented metallic cream. Use to adorn eyes, face and body, and apply with fingers or a brush. Release your inhibitions and illuminate your alter ego.

Superior Liquid Metal is a metallic sapphire color with small shimmery particles. The price is $26.00 for 1.5 g (0.05 oz) and it’s available online @illamasqua.com and Sephora.

The Liquid Metal is actually more like a cream product which can be used on face and body for a dramatic makeup, theater makeup or anything that you can think of. On the eyes it can be applied simple over an eyeshadow base or you can use it as a base and apply a blue eyeshadow or pigment on top of it.

This product is very creamy so for my oily lids the eyeshadow base is a must but even my Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance Primer couldn’t keep the creasing away. The Liquid Metal will work better on those who don’t have oily eyelids but in my case I found it works better if I set it with a powder eyeshadow.

On my Wanton Woman makeup look I used the Superior Liquid Metal over the eyeshadow base but I didn’t apply anything else of top of if so it started creasing pretty soon, since it’s very creamy and doesn’t seem to dry so quickly. On the other hand the blending it is very easy, you can use a brush or even your fingers.

I like the metallic effect and its shine but is not that pigmented on my lids. To stop it from creasing I had to apply only a thin layer, blend it very well so it will look more sheer.

It can be used in many ways and depends on your skin type which one it will work better for you.

Here are the swatches. 🙂

It realy is a difference between the swatches. A primer is realy important for the eyes. And this blue is wow! Kiss

The primer really does help. Even with primer though, I`m generally not a fan of cream products. They crease and fade much too easily – even when you set them with another shadow.

If you have very oily lids, no primer will be able to help you with cream products.

Hi Michelle! The creamy products are really not recommended for oily lids. I’ve tried applying them over different primers but I get mostly the same result. I use Too Faced Eyeshadow Insurance primer, it’s really the best for me so far. When I use glitter or pigments I usually try a sticky base so the pigment can last longer. 🙂

It’s such a beautiful product. That line wasn’t available in the US though.

That’s a beautiful shade but I’m not a fan of cream products, they crease so bad on me!
