Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation – Review, Swatches & Photos

by Tavia

Hello pretties!

I’m always on the lookout for the perfect foundation since my favorite one was discontinued more than one year ago so I was really happy to try the new Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation. I must admit the name was pretty confusing for me at first because as a combination skin type I tend to stay away from foundations with satin finish just because they give me a dewy effect which later turns into a shine and then oiliness. The part where it says matte got my attention and I was really intrigued by the satin matte combination so I had to test this one out.

This luxurious, long lasting fluid foundation gives skin perfecting and 16 hour flawless coverage with a whisper smooth feel. The modern satin matte finish captures and reflects light from fine lines and wrinkles for an exceptionally youthful appearance. It erases imperfections, won’t settle into lines, and looks seamless on the skin. Works beautifully for all ages and skin types.

Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation ($48.00 for 1.08 fl oz/32 ml) in Buff is a light beige shade perfect for those with light skin tone like me. The packaging is absolutely adorable and I stated that from the beginning when I posted sneak peek photos on Facebook and Twitter. With Senna is always about luxury and glam when it comes to packaging but this time the foundation bottle looks super cute, it’s very easy to hold and use, not to mention it comes with a pump to facilitate the application while keeping the product sanitary. The rounded hefty glass bottle fits perfectly in my hand and I must admit it really makes a difference and stands out from all my other foundations.

Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation is available in only 7 shades and I must admit you don’t have much to choose from so it’s more likely that lot of you won’t find the right shade. This is definitely a minus for Senna and it should try to enlarge the color spectrum as this foundation is really worth it.

The formula is somewhere between liquid and light creamy, certainly different than the watery very fluid formula that other foundations have. Senna promises a flawless coverage which can mean a full coverage for some but my personal opinion is that it’s somewhere between light and medium. It can be easily build up to a more than average-medium but I would still not define it as full coverage. It applies easily, smoothly and evenly across the face, diminishing minor skin imperfections, wrinkles and fine lines but I still have to use concealer when I have a bad face day and I want to cover any zits or breakouts.

It gives a beautiful fresh and natural appearance, truly described as a satin matte without settling into fine lines or wrinkles and without emphasizes pores. As a combination sensitive skin type I’m always looking for a matte finish in a foundation but something with a sheer to medium coverage, that will feel lightweight on my face without giving me the feeling that I have a mask. Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation is great with my skin, allowing it to breathe and look natural. The foundation doesn’t feel sticky or oily in any way but it does contain dimethicone which as an ingredient that oily/acne prone skins may have heard and tend to not use foundations like this on daily basis. I get 5 hours of wear before I notice a shine on my T-zone and then I know I need to use my oil control papers.

The foundation color, does not fade and I get 10 to 12 hours wear with this formula without any problems and without breaking me out. As I said the only minor inconvenient is the shine that appears after 5 hours and even if I don’t use my oil control papers my complexion doesn’t turn oily or greasy, just a bit shiny.

I like to apply the foundation with my hands to warm up the product and insist on the key points of my face but the best way to apply this product is using a damp sponge or a beauty blender. I know many of you like to use a stippling brush or a foundation brush but this foundation is not brush friendly as you may end up looking streaky.

Here and here are some of my makeup looks where I used Senna Lasting Illustion Satin Matte Foundation so you can see for yourselves how this product looks on me.
