NYX London Soft Matte Lip Cream Review, Swatches, Photos

by Tavia

Hello beauties!

Now that NYX has opened its first store in Bucharest (it was about time, wouldn’t you say?) I got a chance to try out some of its famous lip products, swatch and play with the colors I like right in the store and not having to settle for online swatches and reviews anymore. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is a lip product that has been receiving so much attention in the States since it launched, that I knew I had to try it out myself. I mean there’s a variety of nude shades when it comes to Soft Matte Lip Cream that you can definitely find your favorite. These are drugstore products so the price is considerably cheap to make you wanna buy more than just one shade.

NYX London Soft Matte Lip Cream (29.00 Lei / $6.00 for 0.27 fl oz / 8 ml) is a nude peachy-beige shade with a super matte finish. It’s very close to my skin tone, so it comes on very natural for those with fair and light skin tones.

It doesn’t look totally opaque on the lips, more like a medium color coverage in one swipe. It dries down to a totally matte finish super fast. The formula is so lightweight, a bit thin and somehow creamy that I can believe I’m actually wearing a matte finish lip product. I feel that it is so gently on the lips, the texture being so velvety and delightfully creamy.

Even though I’m not a fan of matte finish lip colors, when it comes to such a finish I like my color to look fully opaque on the lips. Well, with NYX London Soft Matte Lip Cream I didn’t got a fully opaque lip color in one swipe. So the thing that I don’t like about these in general (I have tried other shades as well) is that I have to apply the first layer then wait for it to totally dry, then apply the second one and by the third layer I can finally get an opaque color coverage. This would definitely look like a nude on medium or darker skin tones and more pigmented than what it looks like on my fair skin.

This product offers more like a soft matte sheer coverage color and the application is a bit tricky. They might look as lip glosses or liquid lipsticks, considering the tube and doe-footed applicator and all but they are definitely not. They glide-on easily, without pulling the lip or leaving a sticky film behind, but they don’t apply evenly, so the color looks a bit streaky.

Minding that is a matte finish lip product, make sure you moisturize your lips before the application as the formula sinks into lip lines pretty obviously and will make them look dehydrated. Unlike other matte lip products these feel quite moisturizing and gives me a comfortable feel throughout the wear.  It has a sweet scented formula without any discernible taste to me.

I had about four hours and half wear time with this color, without feeling my lips dry for any second. The color faded gradually so it didn’t look weird in the end.
