Douglas My Favorite Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

by Tavia

Hello pretties!

You already know I received quite a few Douglas beauty gifts for Christmas and My Favorite Palette in Nude as well. This is a obviously a limited edition Douglas exclusive palette and there’s another version as well, in Sparkling, for those who want something more intense and glittery.

Douglas My Favorite Palette (€12.99 / 59.00 Lei for 16 x 1.3 g) is a 16 eye shadow palette in nude shades varying from light to dark with matte, satin and metallic finishes. I would have to say this contains quite a good variety of nudes and naturals, more like the drugstore version of the famous Urban Decay Naked Palette plus a few more shades.

The palette comes in a black luscious plastic case that snaps shut.  The palette is quite big but sleek and quite lightweight so I might add even travel friendly if you want to take it with you in your luggage. Inside you will not find only the 16 eye shadows but a mirror encased and a duo-sponge applicator. I quite like the packaging, they did a great job for a drugstore palette but the only thing I don’t like is the closing system which took me a while to get use to it, but every time I open the palette I feel like I’ll broke my nails.

I won’t be able to review the colors separately, as they don’t have individual names and that’s always a downsize for me. Beside the fact that you are getting quite a variety of shades from light beige, nude, gold, copper, brown, silver, coffee and black they come also in 3 different finishes from what I can tell. All the swatches I took are on bare skin (without using an eyeshadow primer).

In my opinion those with a metallic finish have the best quality. They deliver the best color payoff, they are opaque, highly pigmented, smooth and soft texture, easily blendable and they don’t feel as dry as the others. They are very intense even when applied without an eyeshadow primer. I had about 7 to 8 hours wear with these shades without creasing.

The lightest shades have a semi-opaque coverage with a matte finish. They were easily blendable, some of them felt smooth to the touch while others felt a bit dry and powdery.

The darkest shades such as brown, black and dark grey, disappointed me truly. I would expected a better pigmentation, an opaque coverage and without being so patchy when applied. It takes a bit of effort to get a mostly opaque coverage and an eyeshadow primer is definitely helpful. They blend well but they tend to sheer out after six hours wear.

Enjoy more photos…

Yes, you can tell by the swatches that the darkest shades are very dry and patchy, but the lighter metallic shades are glorious. It often happens in palettes that the mattes aren’t done very well. Still, this is a beautiful palette full of gorgeous colours. And, like you, I like the shades to be named as well.
