Orly Hot Tropics Nail Lacquer – Review, Swatches, Long-Lasting Test

by Tavia

Hello sweeties!

Orly Baked Summer 2014 Collection (swatches, photos, info) which was released earlier this month includes 6 new nail lacquers in hot and bright shades, perfectly for the upcoming season. Today I will be showing you Orly Hot Tropics, a shade that I wore last week and attracted quite a few looks. Hot Tropics is definitely a hot magenta purple, not quite a neon but rich and intense, the kind of shade that will attract people’s attention.

Orly Hot Tropics Nail Lacquer ($8.50/ 45.00 Lei for 18 ml/ .6 fl oz) is a medium dark magenta violet with fine gold shimmer and cool undertones. It’s truly a rich and intense shade which becomes opaque after the second layer and shows a beautiful natural shine. I have to say those who love purple nail polishes and will get to swatch Hot Tropics will definitely fall in love with it. It’s an elegant and classy shade which looks good on every nail length and skin color.

The consistency is very light and liquidy but not watery at all which makes the polish glide effortlessly on the nail without streaking, bubbling or pooling along the edges of the nail. It dries relatively fast, under 5 minutes.

I used Orly Rubberized Lacquer Gripping Base Coat on all of my nails and Orly 3-in-1 Top Coat only on my left hand nails. I have to tell you that layering a top coat it definitely gives Hot Tropics an incredible shine and a more glossy finish making that fine golden shimmer come to life.

I wore this nail polish for 4 days and you can see the results on the photos bellow. On the left hand nails where I’ve applied top coat I had very minor tip wear and a slight chipping only at one of my nails and the color still look rich, pigmented and with a glossy finish. On the other nails, which haven’t received the protection of the top coat things look noticeably different. The polish faded considerably and it also chipped a bit along the edges of the nail.
