This morning my nails said bye bye to Essie Ole Caliente Nail Polish from Navigate Her Spring 2012 Collection. I will miss this color for sure and I will definitely wear it again when I can but other shades are fighting for a place on my nails so reviews must be done. 🙂
Essie Navigate Her Collection was released in February 2012 (1 March 2012 in Romania) and includes 6 new colors (13.5 ml each) which retail for the price of $8.00 (44.50 Lei @essie.ro).
Ole Caliente is described as a red orange with pink undertone and had opaque color coverage in two coats, though I was happily surprised to see it was opaque and very pigmented in a single coat. The application was flawlessly. Ole Caliente has an excellent formula, not too thick but not watery also. I can say the formula is better than Essie Tour de Finance but not as thick as Essie No More Film. I applied it evenly without bubbling, pooling, or streaking.
It has a natural shine from the first coat and it improves with the second layer. Once I applied my top coat – Kinetics Nano Shark Emergency Treatment – I had the final glossy finish result.
As usually for testing and review purposes I applied two coats of Ole Caliente + top coat on my left hand’s nails and only two coats of color without top coat on my right hand’s nails. This time I didn’t apply a base coat, I just buffered my nails and made them glossy.
Essie Ole Caliente Nail Polish 5 days later
To tell you honestly when I saw Ole Caliente in the bottle I said to myself “OK I’m going to keep it on my nails for 3 days only for review purposes, because I’m not crazy about this kind of shades” but when I saw it on my nails I changed my mind instantly. It really looks good if you have white, pale skin like me. The contrast is amazing and makes the color pop.
So the final thing is that I kept wearing it from Sunday until Friday, which is today and I took it off minutes before writing this review. This one is definitely a keeper. I took the photos for the review yesterday but I just didn’t want to remove the color :).
I’ve tried Essie nail polishes before and they didn’t leave the impression they are chip resistant but they must have changed the formulas lately because most of their Spring 2012 nail polishes are better than the ones I used to wear in the past.
After 5 days or wear I had minimal tip wear (a small chipping on my pinkie toe) of the nails with the top coat and even the ones without top coat were looking great. The color is a little bit opaque but water, soap and lotions do that (I also washed dishes every day).
See for yourself…
I hope this review was helpful for you in making a decision whether buy or not to buy this color. Please share your impressions in the comments bellow.
