Fashion Smoke makeup inspired by Too Faced Smoky eye palette

Few days ago I did another Smoky eye makeup inspired by Too Faced Smoky eye palette. This look is called Fashion Smoke and I have to tell from the beginning that I never use blue or green shades for my makeup looks, so this was a real challenge for me.

Maybe it’s only my impression but I don’t like using green and blue eyeshadows since my eyes are green and I try to emphasize them by using other colors like violet, pink, gold or brown shades. A few years ago I was using a lot of  black and gray eyeshadows for everyday smoky eye makeup, but if you are bored with the classical black eyeshadow you can try a purple smoky eye makeup which seems to be very trendy this fall and also suits every skin, hair and eye color.

Day Smoke makeup inspired by Too Faced Smoky eye palette

Do you remember the Smoky Eye palette by Too Faced that I reviewed few days ago? I promised that I would come back with a makeup inspired by this  palette, so you can see in the photos below what I’ve came up with.

This look is called Day Smoke and is one of the three makeup looks proposed by the makeup artists of Too Faced. Inside this palette are 3 cards with makeup tips to help you obtain the best smoky eye look.

I chose the Day Smoke makeup today because I had to go for the second day at Cosmetic Beauty Hair  – international exhibition of products and equipment for cosmetology, body care and hairdressing – and I wanted something chic and classy, wearable in the day time but also with some mystery inside.

I usually use lots of brown and bronzy shades in my makeup and these are some beautiful colors. They are very easy to apply on the lid and above the crease. I didn’t use the 2 double-sided brush/sponge applicators because I preferred to use my own makeup brushes, which I’m use to. Review -Too Faced – Smoky eye – Palette

Yesterday I stopped by Sephora and took a look to those new fall 2009 collections. I promised myself before entering the shop that it will only be a short visit, cause I knew that if stayed there more than 10 minutes I would empty my credit card.

So, in my short visit to Sephora I stopped by Too Faced stand and took a look to the Natural Eye Palette that Karen from makeupandbeautyblog reviewed last moth. I liked the colors a lot, in the fall I use lots of light browns, bronze and dark browns colors, but I’ve decided to choose the Smoky Eye palette and try a different makeup style this autumn. This palette contains lots of vibrant colors and especially a beautiful dark green and blue. I admit that it has been years since I’ve used green and blue shades but as I said I want to make a change in my makeup style and also I was interested on the smoky eye color combination between green and blue.

Smoky eyes in seconds

smoky eyes 150x101 Smoky eyes in secondsNothing is more glam than dark shadow, so don’t be scared of trying it in a hurry. Blending is the key – and hides any mistakes!

  1. Thickly line your upper and lower lash line with a creamy black kohl pencil – Wet’N'Wild night lights kohl, has a rubber tip, use this to soften the upper lash line, taking the kohl color up on to lids slightly.
  2. Using your index finger, blend a dark grey powder shadow, like Collection 2000 single shadow in Moonstone, over lids, taking the color up to just under your brow bone.
  3. Layer a black shadow like Me Me Me Shock Shadow in graphite, over your lid and along your lower lash line. Use a small shadow brush to blend this color lightly up into your brow bone, also blendaaaaauhm98saaaaaarksoa Smoky eyes in secondsing it lightly out at the corners to create a cat’s eye effect.
  4. Line the upper and lower inner rims of your eyes with a black kohl pencil. This will block out any fleshy color between the whites of your eyes and the shadow for a more intense effect. Finish with Bourjois volume clubbing mascara in black. Try different colors for subtler smoky looks.

If you’re in a rush it’s easy to lose control of your mascara wand. Allow the mascara to dry (if you try to wipe it off straightaway you’ll just smudge it) then dip a piece of tissue in moisturiser and carefully dab over the mark to remove it.

If you like this makeup, you should also check out Cailin’s step-by-step guide on how to apply a smoky eye makeup. I find it quite helpful.

Makeup ready in a second

collistar trio Makeup ready in a secondWake up and shine! A tanned face is much easier to arrange in the morning. Use a self-tanning about twice a week or chose a product that you can applied it daily. My recommendation is Instant Bronzer from Ga-De.

Shorten your facial routine. Start by applying a base to fix your makeup and to avoid refreshing it later. I recommend you Boots No 7 Mattifying Make-up Base. Then, apply a fond-du-teint adjusted to your face; you can try Astor Air Mousse. Apply a correcteur to cover up the little “problems”. A close friend can be Clinique Airbrush Concealer. In order that your makeup keeps fresh all the time, i recommend you Clarins Fix Make-up.
