Orly Ruby Nail Polish – Review, Swatches & Long Lasting Test

I met Orly Ruby nail polish last week when Rowe Romania which is the only Romanian distributor for Orly products hosted an event and I had the pleasure of winning one of their prizes offered in a raffle. Orly Ruby nail polish (5.3 ml/ 0.18 fl oz – 20.oo Lei) is a deep brownish red creme with a glossy finish. It looks semi opaque in one coat and fully opaque in two coats with a nice shiny finish which can be amplified by an extra layer of top coat. For a dark color like this one I would prefer a full opacity from the first coat especially that are lots of better dupes out there.

The formula is excellent, not very thin or too thick and makes the brush glides easily on the nails. The application went without pooling, bubbling or streaking the only problem I had is that the color looked a little bit uneven after the first coat. Orly Ruby is a color with history because it was launch as far as I know in back in 2008. As as base coat I choose Jordana Garlic Growth Base Coat and one of five of my nails I’ve also applied Jordana Yellow Out top coat.

I worn the nail polish for almost 3 days and the nails which received the protection of the top coat began showing a very minor tip wear while the color was visibly mattified. On the other nails where I haven’t applied top coat I had no chipping but visible tip wear and a more mattified color. After these results I considered I should removed this color because I don’t like to have tip wear right on the second day.
