If you want the sun on your face and your toes in the sand, you have to fly to a far-flung beach. But for a sun-kissed holiday glow, you need go no further than your nearest makeup counter.

Beyond the pale
You can turn a pasty complexion into a weekend-by-the-seaside face in two simple steps. A little tinted moisturiser(try Darphin Make-up Sublime Hydrating Tinted Cream) will lift your complexion. Follow with a bronzer dusted on the cheekbones, across the forehead and eyes, down the bridge of the nose and chin, and on the collarbones, with a big fluffy brush. Avoid shimmer and orange undertones – go for a matt gel, applied with a foundation brush, or a powder in a milky coffee shade, and you can’t go wrong. If you’re naturally very pale, a golden-beige powder is dark enough. Some mascara and nude gloss are the only finishing touches you need for a face that looks as healthy as this.

Golden girl
Brown on top of brown looks dull. If you’ve caught the sun, the way to bring out your tan is with gold, shimmer and juicy hues. I like to give tan skin an all-over gleam with Becca Luminous Skin Colour or with a glowy moisturiser like Dr Lewinn Instant Beauty Radiance Booster. Next, highlight your face in the same way you’d apply bronzer, using a shimmering gold or bronze powder or cream. Brush or dab lids with a gold eyeshadow, taken all the way up to the brows. For eye-opening definition, closely trace the top lashes with a shimmering brown or bronze, pencil or liquid form. Add some sunshine to your lips with a bright orange gloss.

Bronze metal
For high-summer drama, try a palette of metallic bronzes for lips, eyes and cheeks. Start with a sheer, mattifying base. Apply a shimmering bronze eyeshadow to the lids, up to the socket line. Follow with a dark bronze gel liner along the top and bottom lashes, and smudge it with your finger. Next, define the eyebrows with a stiff brush and a powder one shade lighter than their natural color, and rub a pale gold highlighter underneath the brows. Apply black mascara, then add a few fake gold lashes (try Screenface Gold Eyelashes) to the outer corners.
